The “Wider Role” is activity that RSLs are involved in that goes beyond the provision, improvement and management of housing, with the aim of improving the economic, social and environmental circumstances of the communities within which they operate.

Amongst the strategic objectives of WLHP is the aim to “make a positive difference to the quality of neighbourhood life in the communities we serve”. We have agreed to contribute to wider regeneration issues, improve links with existing groups, plans and structures, and collect and share information on local issues.

WLHP has been engaged in a number of activities which relate to community regeneration:

· working with West Lothian Council to expand local training and employment opportunities arising from construction by WLHP and through the West Lothian Strategic Alliance

· supporting young people’s sport through sponsorship of training kits for the Boghall Bulldogs U-12 football team

· attending locality planning meetings (Bathgate and Livingston areas)

· financial support for Pinewood School for children with special needs

· financial contribution to new skatepark in Boghall
